The Internship will be based in Pistoia, Italy, within the On Board System Engineering Department, in line with a defined training plan and learning objectives.
Internship Activities / Accountabilities
The main activity of the internship is related to learning the technical issues relating to some of the main on-board systems installed on Hitachi vehicles and to familiarizing oneself with the management of their projects.
• Support the team in projects activities under the guidance of the assigned Tutor
• Learn and apply basic principles related to Doors and Toilet Systems
• Participate in project-related tasks with increasing autonomy
• Observe and understand internal processes and workflows
Required Skills / Knowledge
• Analytical mindset and structured problem-solving
• Good communication skills, able to work effectively in multicultural teams
• Attention to detail and compliance mindset (quality, safety)
• Ability to produce clear documentation and communicate status (e.g., reports, meeting notes, action lists)

The Internship will be based in Naples, Italy, within the Traction & Auxialiary Control Engineering Department, in line with a defined training plan and learning objectives.
Internship Purpose / Objective
The internship is designed to offer a structured learning experience within the Control & Propulsion Systems team, allowing the intern to apply academic knowledge in an industrial environment and to gain exposure to control systems, electric drives, and power electronics used in railway applications.
Description of Internship Activities
• Support the understanding of technical requirements and system architecture related to control and propulsion systems.
• Assist in modeling and simulation activities of electric drives and power converters using academic tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink).
• Support the analysis of basic control strategies and algorithms for electric machines, in line with university-level concepts.
• Observe and assist in testing and validation activities, including Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).
• Support the preparation and organisation of technical documentation.
• Participate in team meetings and observe engineering workflows and design review processes.
Required Knowledge / Skills
• Basic knowledge of control systems theory acquired during university studies.
• Introductory knowledge of electric machines and electric drives (e.g. PMSM, induction motors).
• Basic understanding of power electronics fundamentals.
• Introductory experience with modeling and simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink).
• Basic knowledge of programming concepts (C/C++ or Python – academic level).
• Interest in control systems and electric propulsion technologies.
• Willingness to learn and structured analytical mindset.
Educational Background
Enrollment in or recent completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical disciplines.

Internship Activities / Accountabilities
• Support the team in Design Engineering activities under the guidance of the assigned Tutor
• Learn and apply basic principles related to structural design
• Participate in project-related tasks with increasing autonomy
• Observe and understand internal processes and workflows
• Learn and apply finite element method on vehicle structures
• Learn and apply requirement management with DOORS software and translate them in technical specifications
• Perform static and fatigue analysis on carshells structures of railway vehicles
• Perform bolted joints assessment according to VDI2230
• Collaborate with the sub-project groups (internal and external) and ensure the development of the assigned project part
Required Skills / Knowledge
• Good analytical and organizational skills
• Basic digital skills (Office tools or equivalent)
• Desired university training in the use of Finite Element method and softwares as Hyperworks, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Ansa
• Desired knowledge on EN 12663 , EN 15227 and EN 13749, TSI LOc&PAs
• Analytic approach and Team-working attitude
Education / Qualifications
• Essential: Enrollment in or recent completion of a relevant academic program
• Preferred: Specialization, thesis focus, or coursework aligned with the internship area
